Work Experience.. Day 2

Today was my second day in Work Experience in the Childrens Circle Montessori in Celbridge. I wasn't as nervous this morning because I knew the layout of the day generally. I met the children at the corner of the entrance and walked in with them. I had to take all their coats and bags and put them on the cupboard. We then went off and played abit with the jig-saws and lego etc. I then had to help two children with their numbers and letters. We then did some sounds. I had to get lunch ready and give it to the children. When we finished lunch the children practiced their songs and poem for the summer show in May. They were all really good. Tomorrow we are painting so Ill have to wear old clothes !!

Work Experience... Day 1

This week, 27th February - 2nd March We have work experience. My work experience is in a Montessori because I love working with Children. I work from 8:30am - 12:30pm. I was really nervous but slightly excited because there was only going to be 10 kids. I left home at 8:20am and met the supervisor at the door. When I walked in all the children took a shine to me and thought it ws great to have someone else to play with. I started by making jig-saws and making necklaces. I had to help feed some children at lunch time.
I really enjoyed my first day and think I will be more relaxed and less nervous. I am really looking forward to tomorrow.

Geography Disease Brochure

In Geography we got a Around the world Trip Project which I have explained about in my earlier posts . After Christmas We got a add-on project to complete it which was a disease brochure which is where you choose a disease from one of the countries you did in the world trip and write about the disease. I Ethiopia and the Disease I did was Hepatitis A which is a virus and if you get it, it affects your liver. To help prevent you getting it it is recommended you get the vaccination and boil or cook all foods to85 degrees for 1 minute to inactivate the virus.
We have to hand the brochure in today and I really enjoyed doing this project .

Don't Drink and drive, or else

Last Friday Two Gardai from Naas came into talk to all the T.Ys on Road Safety. The talk lasted 2 hours and it was just on the effects of Alcohol on your system while you are driving and if you are tired when driving. There was alot of real-life videos which shocked us all because not all of us knew the full effects of driving when you feel a bit tired or if you had a bit of alcohol in your system.
Did you know that if you drive 10km/h you could save someones life :) The gardai told us that if we wore our seat belts not only would we be saving our own lives we would also be saving everyone else in the cars life too because you have a 50% chance of killing some else by not wearing a seat belt because if you flight forward you will stop by hitting them :(

St. Brigid's Day

All of the T.Ys set of to Kildare village to follow in the footsteps of St. Brigi, I was all set but in swimming I injured my knee so wasn't able to walk properly:(
Since it was St.Brigid's Day on the 1st February last week we decided that this year we were going to Celebrate and spread the world about St.Brigid as some of our year didn't know alot about Her. Ms.L suggested that we could make up a blog all about St. Brigid and her life and also about the Curragh and Kildare. We started the project a week or so before St.Brigid's Day. We were all put into groups of three or four based on what topic we wanted to research. I went into a group of three girls with Aoife and Aisling. Our topic was a 'Spotlight on Kildare' My main topic was on the Curragh and I also wrote a bit about other places of interests in Kildare including:
Moones Cross: It is one of the best preserved monuments of its kind in Ireland. The cross stands at 17.5 metres high.
Leixlip Castle: The central part of the castle dates from 1172, just after the Norman Invasion in 1171 and is one of the oldest continuously-occupied buildings in Ireland.
Donnellys Hollow: Donnelly was born in the docks of Dublin, Ireland in March, 1788; He fought at a time when boxing was of the bare-knuckles variety. His second victory on December 13, 1815, was his most celebrated and a source of Irish pride because his opponent, George Cooper, was from England, which still ruled Ireland at the time. Dan Donnelly died shortly after and his arm is the only part of his body that remains.

About St.Brigid

File:Brigid.jpgSt. Brigid was born in AD 450 in Faughart, near Dundalk in Co. Louth. Her father, Dubhthach, was a pagan chieftain of Leinster and her mother, Broicsech, was a Christian. It was thought that Brigid’s mother was born in Portugal but was kidnapped by Irish pirates and brought to Ireland to work as a slave, just like St. Patrick was.
Brigid has been called "Mary of the Gaels" and a common salutation in the Irish language expresses the hope that "Brigid and Mary be with you". Her influence is not confined to Ireland.
