Latest Challenge.....

In Geography our latest project is to complete a tri-fold brochure on a disease in the Third World. I am doing Ethiopia because I have been to Ethiopia and have experience of what diseases are common there. I chose to do Hepatitis A because it is a very common disease in Ethiopia and Us tourists are at the highest risk of contracting it because our immune systems are not use to the virus and we have no protection. If you contract Hepatitis A your body is most likely to be able to fight it off and you will recover in a few weeks but it can take up to a year to fully recover.
I will post pictures when I complete my project. Wish me luck !!

I have alot of favourite prgrammes; Fair City, Desperate Housewives, Coronation Street and Temple Street. I decided to do Temple Street because everyone else were doing the programmes I was going to do :) I loved watching Temple Street :)

Day of Plays

Today all the T.Y's set of to Mullingar at 9:30am to see all the other T.Ys (Eriú and Banba) doing their plays. The bus journey wasn't that long it was about anhour but I was talking to Fiona and listening to some music :)  When we arrived at Mullingar our class was the only class that didn't look like they were going to EXPLODE with nerves and clinging onto their scripts while reciting lines to each other in the final few minutes !!

Each class had two groups. They were all really good. My favourite was "Concrete Angels" which was about a seven year old girl who was getting beaten by her mother behind her fathers back and everyone was worrying she was getting bullied. In the end the father and teacher were chatting and realise the mother is the one causing all "Holly's" bruises. All the actors had great projection in their voices and contained their voices when needed. They had alot of necessary and dramatic pauses which added to the tension of the performance.
The other three plays where
1) Mid-Term Break By Seamus Heaney: I thought this play was really well acted out and the way the actresses carried there emotions was excellent. I could sense the sadness and loss throughout the whole performance.
2) Tich Miller: This was a play based on a poem which deals with bullying and exclusion. I felt this poem dealt with strong issues which are very realist today. It didn't have as much of a sad ending in comparison to the orders but showed people who are getting bullied how to stand up to the bullies.
3) The last play was all about girls and relationships and how you can be popular but you can't have everything you want and possibly end up the worst in the end. This play was also very realist and lifelike.

KH were also there and performed two play which were alot longer and more detailed then our school but I found it very hard to concentrate and understand.

I enjoyed all the plays but would of course favour my school in reaching the finals. I don't have any negative comments except that I could hear some plays very well?!?!

Teaching people about St.Brigid all over the world ...........

In  Religion class last week Ms.L came up with a great idea which was that there was a school in Australia named after St.Brigid but they don't know anything about the Saint so Ms.L asked us if we would be interested in promoting St.Brigid and teaching the school in Australia about St.Brigid and other students who don't know much about the saint as well.

We started off by making a list on the board about what things we could to that were realistic. Some of the ideas were : 1) Make a blog, 2) Spotlight on Kildare, 3) steps to make St. Brigid's cross, 4) Story of St. Brigid's and there were a few more. We all got into groups with people that wanted to do the same so I was with Aisling and Aoife, our job was to do a spotlight on Kildare. I am doing my main focus on the Curragh and other places of interest on Moore's Cross, Donnellys Hollow, Leixlip Castle and The National Stud. I am really enjoying doing this project as I didn't know much about St. Brigid before so I am also learning :) When we are all finished the people who set up the blog are going to put all the information on the blog and PUBLISH IT TO THE WORLD WIDE WEB  !!

Talk Later,

The Vibe in St.Wolstans and Beyond !! :)

Well I just thought I would check up on Mrs.L's blog challenge on her blog and for January we are asked to write a blogpost about your school life in St.Wolstans so this is what I going to try do,
I am in my 4th year in St.Wolstans and so far I am loving it............. even though there has been a few bumps on the path I'm still alive !! When I first went into 1st year I was beyond petrified, it was such a different feel/Vibe then primary school because you were always the biggest there and the school community was alot smaller and you new everyone plus it was alot easier to make friends. After a few weeks I settled in and the teacher were always their is you needed help.

St.Wolstan's is a brilliant school and it has such good facilities and sports to offer to those who can't do them after school for some reason. It also offers creative activities like choir and yo-yo. St.Wolstans has a great atmosphere and general vibe. Whenever you walk into St.Wolstans you never feel threatened or unwelcome because it is a very comfortable and fun environment.
When I did my Junior Cert. last year the teachers are all so focused on you to help you achieve your full potential even though the 6th year were doing there Leaving Cert. which is just a bit more important!!  I feel great to have a school were i can just come in without feeling like I don't want to be.

Onto my school community, There is a student council where there are two representatives from each year where if you have any recommendations to improve/ benefit your fellow students you can confront one of the student council members and they can put it to the principal/Vice- Principal. For example we have alot of space outside so the student council members suggested a swimming pool but it got declined because the fund weren't available. The student council benefits the school community because if you are not that confident you can confront your peer student council member and they will put your point across. My last point is the Peer menotrs which are a group of trusted and caring students who are avaliable for there year to come to if they have a certain problem in school i.e. Bullying or a problem with a teacher. The peer menots will try sort you out without confronting or telling anyone your problem and if you want them to tell a cetain teacher or the chaplain they will but they would never tell anyone if you don't want them to :)

I hope I haven't bored you with my essay on " The Vibe in St.Wolstans and Beyond !!"

Our Thursday activities have changed from Photography, Charleston dancing and Pilates to Massage, Zumba dancing and making a band. When I heard we would be doing massage on each others head I thought it would be a tad awkward !! but it wasnt that bad it was really relaxing. The women had a air stream machine that blew out citrius oil aroma and it smelled lovely. Zumba was amazing we started off with the basic moved and come 3:20 we were dead and really warm. Band building was really fun and relaxing we just had to sing lyrics back to Ms. R when she said them !! These are my Thurday activities for a few more weeks :)
