Waris after she became famous, Doesn't she look well :) |
For the past few weeks we were learning about the millenium development goals in Relgion. One of the most importants was Gender equality. We
learned alot about this but Ms. L showed us a film called 'Desertflower' It is about a Somali Women called 'Waris Dirie' who was circumcised at 3, sold in marriage at 13, fled from Africa a while later to become finally an American supermodel and is now at the age of 38, the UN spokeswoman against circumcision. It was very sad because you don't realise what some Women have to go through just to get some sort of equality while we nearly have equality in Ireland.
Was there anything about Waris' story that impressed you Eimear?
ReplyDeleteMrs L :)
Hi :)
ReplyDeleteI liked how she overcame considerable odds and unspeakable traumas to become an international modeling sensation. Just think of her life now if she hadn't gone to England, She wouldn't have known that female genital mutilation wasn't normal and she wouldn't have come forward to make it illegal to help other girls all over the world become equal.
