Christmas PAAARRTYY !!
Class Fódla(Me) held the most amazing christmas party today. We came into school really early and decorated the library with tinsels, Christmas tree, lights and posters. We then put all the love, homemade cakes and cookies out on the table. Emma brought in a chocolate fountain so she was working that. Me, Emma. R, Orla, Lisa and chaoilfeann were in the Home-Eco room boiling milk and mixing hot chocolate. Santa called all the T.Ys to the hall and the fun began. We all got our Kris Kindle pressies and off we went to finish the Day Bowling. After bowling we went to the arcade and had more fun there. I really enjoyed the day out and now it really feels like Christmas with only 3 DAYS TO GO :):):)

Pitching an Important Issue :O
In Religion We have been learning about the MDG's and for the past few classes we have focused in on MDG 3 about Gender and We watched the movie'Desertflower' as I explaining in my last post. Ms.L gave us a task which I really enjoyed because it used what limited artistic skills I had. The task was that we had to imagine we were pitching the story to a film maker and do a Storyboard with the six images from Waris' life that we though were the most important. Me and my very artistic partner Emma picked out six images and drew them. They were 1) Map of Somalia were Waris was born, We though it was vital to include this because it tells it own story and it was were Waris was circumcised. 2) This is a picture of Waris wondering through the desert, She has alot on her mind because she doesn't want to get married at such a young age to an man who is alot older then her and she is running away. 3) This picture is in London and is a Fast food Restaurant were Waris was working. She got this job from a sale assistant who she met in Top shop and she felt sorry for her. In the End Waris shares a apartment with her and She is the women who gets Waris noticed by a world famous photographer. 4) This is a picture of Waris when she goes to the Photographer finally and gets her make-up done and new clothes and Waris at this stage knows been circumcised is wrong and she is starting to feel she is worth more then she was been treated. 5) This is when Waris was on the Cover of a famous magazine called 'Elle' and Waris' story is inside. This made her life more public but also showed people that not all women are treated equally.6) We included this picture at the end because it showed what luck Waris had and how she went on to make circumcision illegal worldwide so no girl has to go through what she went through and letting it be o.k.
I really did not know that there was still gender equality in the world. I always thought it was worked out and everyone was treated equally. I felt that Waris had alot of courage to go off an make circumcision Illegal.

Christmas Exams in T.Y :) Study Study Study
As my title says We have Christmas Exams in T.Y starting Tomorrow with Spanish,Religion and then English and on Tuesday with Maths and then Irish :) On Wednesday we have a party and then go bowling !! Our exam in Religion is based on the Millenium development goals and I am basing mine on goal 1 to half Poverty and Hunger.
Some 300 million children go to bed hungry every day. More than 90 per cent are suffering long-term malnourishment and micronutrient deficiency.
The best start in life is critical in a child’s first few years, not only to survival but to her or his physical, intellectual and emotional development. So these deprivations greatly harm a child’s ability to achieve their full potential, contributing to a society’s cycle of endless poverty and hunger.

The life of a T.Y Student................ Jam packed full of fun !!
Yesterday was a Typical T.Y Day for us T.Y's as it was jam packed full of EVERYTHING from a fashion show to a giant game of bench ball( We are all reaaaaallly competitive so it took a while), Carol singing and then to Pilates to Charleston dancing to a more relaxing watching of the Sound Of Music D.V.D. !! Which came out yesterday and so far its Amazing :)
We had our fashion show for everyone who is doing the fashion Home Eco. We were given a task at the start of the year( September) and the task was to create a dress from a fashion era but you had to incorporate a tee and jeans into it. We were all given a colour and off we went. My group decided that I was going to be the model, Bad Idea, and our era was the 1920's Flapper and our colour was black and white. In the end we used one black pillow case and half the tee as the body of the dress and we cut up the jeans and the rest of the Tee into strips of frill's and this was the main part of our dress as it took the longest and you may have guessed. We then had to put together a mood board with how we got our inspiration and what processes we used and one or two picture an sketches. But all our hard work payed out when yesterday we had the fashion show. It was so much fun because we had to get all our make up done and then model the dress to the judges and then to the rest of the T.Ys which was a bit embarrassing ! Today the winners from each class was announced and they all got a tin of sweets. We then all pilled into one classroom and watched the D.V.D of the fashion show and everyone shared there sweets.
To work off all the sweets after big lunch we had Pilates and then Charleston dancing so theres no need to explain how hard Pilates was with 'THE BAND'

The actors were all amazing and I think it was a great experience and I will remember it when I reflect back on T.Y. Two down...... two to go
Last Monday night, we had our first performance of our school musical "The Sound of Music". Taking in mind we had never had a full dress rehearsal of act one or act two.. it was a success!! :) All cast and crew arrived at 6:30 for a quick run through,
The second night ran alot smoother and scene changes and dress changes were getting faster. Props people had to make a checklist and tick it off before and after the show. We had to have all the props in order and not all over the place because you had dancers and acters coming through backstage. The dancers were chatting and we kept telling them to be quiet and we later learned every snigger can be heard from the audience as all actors mics arnt turned off when they leave stage!!!
I can't wait for tonights performance and good luck to all involved :)

The Schools alive with the Sound of Music!!
As my title explains the school is literally alive with the 'Sound of Music'. with only one week left until the big Opening night I think everyone is Excited but at the same time nervous. The atmosphere in the school towards the musical is AMAZING I'm part of the props team with 3 others girls and may I say it is actually quite hard because you need to do everything quite quick and without drawing attention to yourself. We have to go to rehearsals everyday and Saturdays and Sundays !!! But I can't wait for the final product. Tickets are selling quite fast.

Colour Me Beautiful..........
Hi again,
Yesterday all T.Y's who do Home Economics Fashion got a talk/presentation on fashion and what colours suit you:) Two lovely women came in at 12 o'clock until 1.20pm. They started off by handing us all a sheet and we had to fill in what category we thought we were i.e Warm is for people with dark hair and eyebrows while soft is for blonde haired girls with light features. I was a soft !!! After this they went onto show us what colors suited what categories. Light colours suit Soft people but not too light because it might drain us out. Light blues and pinks suit us rather than dark blues and luminous pinks..
I really enjoyed the talk and felt I learned alot and would definitely recommend it.

The Hills are alive..... With the Sound of Music
I am a prop co-ordinator in the School Musical ; Sound of Music'. The four of us on the team are amazingly busy trying to find props that you wouldn't think you could 'Borrow' like we need to find a 'Black old fancy Bicycle' and a ' wrought Iron Garden Bench' but we are getting on very well and have some companies letting us borrow furniture. All we need to do now is to go to Rehearsal's afterschool to find out when and where to put the props on the nights of the musical. I am so excited because I wanted to get really involved in T.Y this year !!

Are we equal??
In Religion for the past few weeks we have been learning about the Millennium Development goals and had to do aMini Project on our most important one. I did universal primary education because if all children had a basic primary education they are educated on the risks of aids and dirty water.
Yesterday Ms.L took our class to the hall to do a exercise with us. She handed everyone a small piece of paper with a description of a girl on it, each one was different. Mine was a 14 year old girl from India who was a maid for a rich family. Ms.L then asked questions like ' Do you get to go to primary school' 'Do you get an fair pay' Etc. If the question relates to you then you take a big step and if it doesn't you stay still. At the end this huge gap had occurred between us, the people at the end of the hall were first world and the people nearer the start line were third world. I think this activity was a great way to look at the differents between the third world and the first world. I never knew children so young, cespecially girls had to be maids and only got to go to school on Sundays.. If they were lucky. Maybe we should stop moaning about going to school and be happpy that we are getting an oppourtunity to get a amazing education.

Did you know that you can't drink the water in Ethiopia or use cutlery that has been washed as all the water in Ethiopia is contaminated. You have to buy bottled water and then boil it to take away all the germs.
Geography is FINITO
The geography project is due tomorrow. There is two parts to the project. The first is to complete the fact file on three countries, 1 Developed, 1 Developing and 1 Undeveloped. I did Ethiopia, Italy and India. This has to be detailed and contain the information on where you stayed and for how long and when you are flighting out and how much it costs. The second part of the project is to complete a PowerPoint presentation on of the Countries of your chose. This isn't as detailed but more like a summary of our project. I am working with my partner so altogether we will have 2 Developed, 2 Developing and 2 underdeveloped. I printed of the project last night so I'm finished part one of the project. I have already started the PowerPoint so I am ahead at last....... Here is a picture of The Holi festival in India..

Celbridge Historic Town :)
My old Primary School principal Mr.Doohan came into our school today and gave us a talk on the 'History of Celbridge'. I found it very interesting because in primary school he brought us out on walks around Celbridge and showed us lots of interesting places like the famine graveyard and the obelisk. Mr.Doohan has written a book on the History of Celbridge and all the proceeds go towards the new building in Scoil Mochua.
Castletown House
Castletown House
- In 1722 Speaker Conolly started building Castletown House which is Ireland's largest eighteenth century country mansion. It contains one hundred magnificent rooms with 229 windows.
- As the estate was self supporting it required brewers, bakers, weavers, carpenters, dairy maids, stable boys, gardeners, coachmen and masons.
- The butlers were paid £13 per year, cooks £12, coachmen £11, gardeners £10, kitchen maids £3 and cowkeepers £3.
Celbridge Workhouse
- The Celbridge Workhouse (now Colortrend paint factory) opened in 1841 at a cost of £6800 to house 519 inmates. It was the policy of the governors of the Workhouse that a standard of living higher than that enjoyed by the poorest people outside should not be provided.

Juno and The Paycock !!!!
Hi again :)
Well I haven't written a blog post about the play we went to see.......... Well here I go..
We went to see Juno and the Paycock in the Abbey theatre in Dublin on Wednesday and it was amazing. It didn't start until 2pm so the T.Y English teachers thought it would be nice to go to the National library, The Bog Bodies and The National Museum. They were all really good but my favourite was the 'Bog bodies' we the bodies looked like they had been painted brown and just died yesterday. They still had hair and the body hadn't eroded much, even though they died over 1000 years ago. After we went to all these we had lunch in McDonald's :) Finally we went to see Juno and the Paycock.
Juno and the paycock was really good, It was better then just reading the book because it gave you a better insight into the plot of the play. They even cooked Sausages !!!!Blog Soon,

We had our second mini-company group meeting in school today at big lunch with Ms.P. We just had to tell Ms. P what progress we have made since our last class last week. So far we have found a very good supplier who will supply us with the product with our customized designs which he is willing do help us with. We are in contact with the packaging company and label man so I think we aren't doing too bad. My job in the mini-company is the "Finance Girl" because I love Maths :) I just have to control the income ad expenditure and then keep all the receipts. So far I am enjoying learning about the world of Business and Finance.. but it is a bit stressful trying to find a supplier who is willing to deal with students....

Food, Food Glourious Food !!!
Well most of T.Y in my school is participating in a blog action day where we all have to post a blog about FOOD as this blog Action day coincides with 'World Food Day'. This year the day is Sunday so here I go....
Malnutrition: Malnutrition is the condition that results from taking an unbalanced diet in which certain nutrients are lacking, in excess (too high an intake), or in the wrong proportions
Did you know
To feed 9 million people by 2050 we will have to grow something like 35% more food. Very importantly, we have to do so by being more productive on the cropland we have, rather than removing more natural habitat. I think we will find this very difficult without newer and more modern technology and machinery.
Less hamburgers!!: Can't imagine this one will go over well, but the authors do suggest that people will probably have to reduce their meat consumption slightly to feed nine billion people. This doesn't mean going vegetarian. A recent study from Germany's Potsdam Institute found that if everyone had a diet equivalent to eating meat three times a week, it'd be perfectly doable to feed nine billion people and rein in some of the gruesome excesses of factory farming. But if the whole world adopted a Western meat diet, we'd need to start razing forests for additional land—three million square kilometers all told, an area about two-thirds the size of the current Amazon rain forest.
Thank you for reading and I hope you are going to consider helping the hungry people in the world now,

Malnutrition: Malnutrition is the condition that results from taking an unbalanced diet in which certain nutrients are lacking, in excess (too high an intake), or in the wrong proportions
Did you know
- ...almost 1 in 7 people are hungry.
- Climate change is increasingly viewed as a current and future cause of hunger and poverty. Increasing drought, flooding, and changing climatic patterns requiring a shift in crops and farming practices that may not be easily accomplished are three key issues.
- 8 million people die from lack of food and nutrition every year - about 24,000 deaths each day.
- Every year, 5.8 million children die from hunger related-causes. Every day, that’s 16,000 young lives lost.
- For the first time in history, over 1.02 billion people do not have enough to eat. That’s one sixth of humanity - more than the population of the United States, Canada and the European Union combined.
- There are around one billion hungry people in the world: 642 million live in Asia and the Pacific, 265 million in Sub-Saharan Africa, 53 million in Latin America and the Caribbean, 42 in the Near East and North Africa. Fifteen million people in developed countries go hungry, around 1.5 percent of the total.
- The number of undernourished people in the world increased by 75 million in 2007 and 40 million in 2008, largely due to higher food prices.

We watched the second episode of "Educating Essex" I was kind of anxious to watch it again because I hate seeing people getting hurt :-(. The second episode wasn't too bad because Gaby, the girl who was getting bullied started to forgive the two girls who bullied her because they are her best friends and didn't know it would hurt her so much........... Awwwh don't think I could trust them again.. even if they were my best friends !!!!! http://www.channel4.com/programmes/educating-essex/4od
Fun Walk :) Mini !!
Well we had our annual Fun Walk on Friday and it was AMAZING, we were minis and made our own car with real HEADLIGHTS :) I was involved in a lift where we lifted a girl,Aoibheann up in the air like a aeroplane and it worked out(thank god). Our tutor was afraid we might stumble. T.Y's then had to stand at all the cross roads to help the rest of the school to cross. It was great craic.
Unfortunatly Fódla didn't win but Banba. I think Banbas dance was really good so i'm gonna be the bigger person and say Well done banba :) see for yourself here are the pictures to prove it all!!! http://www.stwolstans.ie/
Our tutor says we are still going to have a PARTY !!!

5 things to do this week !!!!
Well........... This week in T.Y I have alot of things to do.........
1)Home Economics Fashion module: I have to make a headband to go with our flapper dress and our baseline of our outfit is been dyed black at the moment so on Friday we have to measure the model (moi) and fit the clothes on me. Our goal for the end of the week is to have the clothes dyed, a finished headband and to have started to cut and sew our outfit and the frills :)
2)Geography: For my Geography project this week I have to work on my "Around the World" fact file on Italy and India. Me and my partner, Emma have to type out the information on the three countries we have chosen and then put them in a folder and present it to our class. My goal this week is to complete my Italy section of the project!!!
3) Find Yellow clothes and paint cardboard: For the Fun Walk on Friday the colour for T.Y is "yellow" so we have to wear a yellow tee and navy tracksuit pants!! and I also have to paint a large enough piece of cardboard yellow to resemble a prop used in our fun walk.......... all will be revealed tomorrow
4) Mini Company: For mini company this week my job is to look up for small boxes to put our product in. We need a small enough box that comes in bulk because we will be buying lots of them for a cheap price and then decorating them.
5) Irish: In Irish for the past few weeks we have started to write about ourselves in irish and put it into a folder and show the class. I have already written about myself and my family so this week I have to start typing it out and put it into a folder.
T.Y is sooooo busy, whoever said T.Y was a doss year mustn't have gone to our school its like any other year but alot funnier and you learn how to deal with all the projects and deadlines !!!!

" I get by with a little help from my friends" ..... Really
This week is Anti-Bullying Week and in Religion we watched a reality documentary on 4oD, called "Educating Essex" in which a girl gets bullied because she is of such high academic level and is head girl. She started receiving text messages bullying her from a number not in her phone. The school acted on it and in the end it was her best friend who sent the text message with the help of her older sister two years older, who is a peer mentor and Anti-bullying leader. The girl who was getting bullied thought she could "get by with a little help from her friends " when she was getting bullied but apparently not. I think her friends were jealous of her and didn't mean to hurt her but it turned out to be very serious and they might get a Criminal Record !!!! So think before you bully, it might think turn into something bigger.

Young scientist here we come !!
Well I never knew doing the young scientist project could be so stressful and frustrating but I have learned it is very hard. We were given a deadline to come up with a topic we were doing our research on and fill in a one-page proposal to send to the young scientist yesterday online. We also had to fill in answers to questions they wanted to know like : Who are you going to contact for more information on your project? The bt website was having a bit of a technical ( think that's how you spell it ) fault so nobody could pay and the deadline was the 3/10 so nobody could pay and that added to the stress.......... BUT It is all over for now the website is back up and running and Our young scientist project is submitted for judging so all we can do now is wait............................... but I can happily say I am very pleased with our project :)

Ciao, la mia visita in Italia fino ad ora....
Ciao, Come parte del mio progetta geografia di questa settimana mi sto occupando Italia.
Venice at Night-Time |
Well I went to Italy this week and what can I say...... It looks great from a computer.I was in Venice and it is one of Italy's most beautiful and romantic cities, built on the water in a lagoon. It's small, traffic-free streets along the winding canals are great for walking. Venice has many magnificent churches and palaces, lively squares, and interesting shops.
Leaning Tower of Pisa |
After getting a gondola ride to Venice, I went to Rome, where I seen the Leaning tower of Pisa which is a freestanding bell tower in Pisa, Italy. It is situated behind the Cathedral and is the third oldest structure in Pisa's Cathedral Square after the Cathedral and the Baptistry.A popular tourist activity is to pose for photographs pretending to "hold up" the leaning tower and preventing it from falling. The tower of Pisa leaned at an angle of 5.5 degrees but after restoration works it now leaning at an angle of 3.99 degrees.

Projects, Projects and more Projects !!!
T.Y is going great so far I am sooo busy, escpecially with projects but the projects we have are fun and we are all working in groups. Its great fun because we all have our own jobs to do and you know you can trust you friends :)
Some of the projects we have already are:
Home Economics: Our Project in Home Eco is were we have to design a dress from an era in the past 200 years and make it using a plain white tee and white jeans as the base. My group is Me, Courtney, Sarah D. and Amy and we got a main colour for the dress to be and ours is Black and white. We have gone for the flapper era and guess what....... I have to model it !!!! we are dying the tee tomorrow black and then we will start thinking what we will put on the dress to get the flapper look!! I'm thinking we could use the tees as the flaps and cut them up into lines.. maybe
Geography: In Geography we are going on a virtual world trip to six different places, Two are developed, two are developing and two are underdeveloped. We have a year to go to the six places and 12,000 for each three countries My partner is Emma R. We are going to South Africa, Ethiopia, Ireland, Mali, India and Italy. Its not as easy as you think. you have to do something everyday and find out how much it costs and cost flights and make sure you flight out around the same time etc......... its very hard but I think I will survive, I might even click buy on one of the flights and head off to Italy for a month !! wanna come ?
Irish: Our project in Irish is not too hard but it still requires alot of effort. we ave to put a folder together about yourself including stuff about your hometown, whereabouts you live, what your pasttimes are and include pictures.
Religion: In religion we only have a mini project, but a project is a project !! My group has to find out about the millenium development goal 2, which is to achieve universal primary school education. This means hopefully by 2015, children everywhere boys and girls alike, will be able to complete a full course of primary school education.
Business: This is the mini company project, We have to get into groups of 6- 10 people and make a product to sell to our school and outside competitions. We still havent came up with an idea but we do have two or three !! So keep looking back at this spce and we might have made a decision on what product we our going to sell..... hopefully !!!!!!!!
Science: Every year in science T.Ys have to enter the young scientist and come up with a project. My project is with two other girls and I am the leader so I organise the details I.E setting up accounts etc. our project is based on sports and fitness so if you hear of a sports and fitness project winning the Young Scientist then hopefully it will be our group !!:)

Pilates, Photography and Charleston dancing
Well we had our 3rd Thursday of afternoon activities this week. We started off with Photography were we took macro photos of nature out to the back of the school. We had to take photos of dead leaves with a clear background, Rob told us if we kept practicing we will get really good at it !!! Look out for my name in the Herald or Gazette :) After photography we had Pilate's which was really hard cause we were all still bruised from Carlingford which I am still on a buzz from hehe. We did loads of stretches. After Pilate's we had Charleston dancing with Ms. OR. We did some warm up but then went into our groups. Meg went home sick early so we were left on our own. She was the leader so we went our last weeks routine. the class was like zombies we were so tired from the Junior Cert night which I think everyone has forgotten about. some people had hockey and other activities after school but I went home and relaxed !!!

Junior Cert Night
Well the day has come that I think everyone has been dreading since the end of June. I went into school yesterday nearly getting sick with the nerves and then we had to wait like hours to get the results. When i got handed the envelope with the results in them i could barely open it but when i did i nearly cried with happiness i had done so well and my mam and the other parents were outside waiting. it felt like a huge wait off my shoulder and i felt i could enjoy my night. We went back to my grannies for lunch and then got dressed up and went out for a lovely dinner. Thankfully i can say The Junior Certificate is over for me thankfully:))
Carlingford :) excitment
Well the big build up to Carlingford has come and gone. I got up at 6am and met the rest of T.Y at the petrol station at 6:45 am. Lets just say I barely remember getting on the bus!!. We all said our goodbyes to our parents :). We arrived at Carlingford at 9am and went straight into activities. We had to like hike up this really steep hill to get to laser tag in our army overalls. I was so tired by the time we got up the hill I didn't think I was that unfit, hopefully that will change by the end of T.Y. In laser tag we had of hide behind barrels and wooden bars to stop the other team shooting us. It was a draw in the end !!!! ( The other team cheated :-D) we went back for lunch and then went to a challenge course where we took part in activities were we had to work as a group. My favourite activite hear was were we went into a metal shed and there was a maze in it, we all though we would get thtrough it in lie 5 minutes but it took over 25 minutes because it was pitch black. we finished up at the challenge course and went back for dinner. After dinner we went on a nightlink walk in the forest BLINDFOLDED, Would you not think this was too dangerous well i think everyone is with you we were petrified. I was really dark and off we went into the dark forest. There were leaders walking behind you to make sure you didnt fall but they kept rubbing there hands off yours to make it feel like there was something on your hands!!.When we got back to the hostel there was a singalong going on so we all had showers and joined in. When it was time to go to bed Mrs.L did a really good rap telling us it was time to go to bed:)
The next day we were up bright and early to have breakfast and then left for that horrible hill again. We all realised it was up that hill that everything happened!! Well we went up to Rock climbing and absailing. I was terrified when i seen how high the wall was but off I went and climbed to the top. I have the bruises to prove it :)) There was a really long queue for absailing so i would have just left it but i wanted to take over my fears and I DID IT :) It was so scary looking down to everyone but you feel so good after accomplishing something hard. We had lunch after that and put on wellies and went off to orienting. It was really all uphill but we got through it. It involved walking up lots of hills and had to find a letter for every number, we finished first and got back by 3:50 pm. Everyone else didn't get back until 4:45pm. our group went to Candyford, the local sweet shop with everything you could everywish for. We ate and ate until we felt sick.
The Bus arrived and we left Carlingford buzzing with happiness. I think I can say on behalf of ALL of T.Y 2011-2012 Carlingford was AMAZING :) and we want to go back !!

Social Development Day :)
well this is only my second blog and I think im getting pretty use to it. The first week of T.Y went by so fast, I feel as a class we are getting to know each other better thanks to the social development day we had as class. Tuesday, the 6th of September was Fódla's social development day. We all met in the library at 9.05am for Registration and we met Mr.D, the man who was going to help us all learn about ourselves. At the very start of the day Mr. D put us in order of our birthdays, we then had to get into a group of 6 with the people sitting beside us and we had to write down our objectives that we wanted to get from the day but also from T.Y. Some of the points we put forward were that we wanted to Bond as class and be one big group of friends, We also felt we needed to gain more confidence. When Mr.D read through all the objectives it was little break. After little break we were separated into pairs and did all these random exercises on conversing with people, body language and how to be a good listener! After this we got split into groups based on our personalites:
I think i learned alot today and we all bonded really well and this day was worthwhile.
